ESBE Care Guide

  • General Care

Rotate and refold your quilt occasionally to prevent creases or wear along the same lines. Avoid placing heavy objects on the quilt to maintain its shape and loft. Direct and repeated sunlight may cause fading.

Regularly checking and lightly shaking your quilt can help maintain its fluffiness and ensure even wear. Remember, with proper care, your quilt will remain a cherished piece for years to come.

  • Washing & Drying

The first wash will alter your quilt’s DNA, bringing out the iconic crinkles we know and love. If you prefer the look of an unwashed quilt, consider using it as a wall hanging or bed topper. For the first wash, please follow the instructions carefully:

Wash separately in Cold Water on Delicate Cycle using a Mild Detergent and the included Colour-Absorbing Sheets. Air dry.

Hand washing is also encouraged for future washes.

  • Folding

If your quilt is to be folded for a prolonged time you should take proper measures to fold your quilt correctly to prevent permanent creases. Review instructions below.

Folding your quilt on the bias, at an angled diagonal to the grain, helps maintain its structural integrity by preventing permanent creases. Straight grain folding is acceptable for short durations but can harm your quilt's longevity, weakening the fabric and batting, potentially causing tears and holes, especially at seams.

  • Storage

Do store your quilt flat, preferably on a bed, or display it on a quilt ladder or in a windowed cabinet for easy access. If folding is necessary, use the bias folding technique. Keep it in a temperature-controlled indoor space, away from direct sunlight.

Don’t store your quilt in airtight plastic containers or bags. Avoid extreme conditions like attics or garages, and never expose it to direct sunlight for prolonged periods to prevent fading.

  • Wrinkle Removal

ESBE quilts can be ironed or steamed to remove deeper set wrinkles. Check your quilts material composition and follow your irons material settings. Most wrinkles can be removed from a quick tumble in the dryer on fluff/low.

  • Wear & Tear

With proper care, your quilt should last for generations. Normal wear and tear, such as fading, fabric tears or rips from animals or usage, and shrinkage, is to be expected over time. However, if a seam or binding comes loose, please reach out with photos. In some cases, I offer free repairs, with the customer covering the shipping costs. I stand behind the quality of my artisan-made quilts and am happy to help with any issues.
